Updated 19th July 2021
With the Government moving to Step 4 of its COVID Roadmap, England Athletics have confirmed that all club and member activity can return to normal. While this is great news for the club, we are committed to continuing to provide COVID safe sessions for current members and anyone wish to join the club during this latest stage of the pandemic.
We have laid out our COVID guidance in the document linked below:

Updated 25th April 2021
With lockdown restriction progressively easing from the 29th March and KADS Covid documentation being updated, the club can now return to put on sessions for its members.
The club will be putting on ‘Lead’ runs (A run leader will lead a group through a pre-arranged route) and ‘Structured’ sessions (A run leader hosts a hill, intervals, fartlek session or similar in a small area) for it’s members, within the guidelines set out by England Athletics on the 26th March 2021, which can be found here: https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/guidance-update-2021/
All sessions must be booked on to through the RunTogether platform, which can be found here: https://groups.runtogether.co.uk/KADS/Our updated COVID documentation can be found in the club documents section of our website: https://www.kadsrunning.com/club-official-docs.html
We ask that anyone who isn’t a member looking to join a KADS run please contact our Comms Managers via email (webmanager.kads@gmail.com) or send us a direct message through our Facebook page.
Updated 29 November 2020
With lock down ending England Athletics has published updated information for what the Tiers mean to running clubs.
These guidelines come into effect on Wednesday, and we’re waiting for clarification on the part about moving between Tier 3 areas. The latest information we’ve seen from EA states “you can't leave the regional area (i.e. county) to another area that is also Tier 3. The "area" of no travel is the county or borough region not the Tier designation.”
We believe this means we won’t be able to go to the track at Ilkeston while the tier system is in place (we’re looking into alternatives) but it doesn’t confirm if the travel boundaries are county or borough level. We’ll keep you updated when we know more, but in the meantime, please use the link below to familiarise yourself with the guidelines.

Updated 5 November 2020
England Athletics have updated their guidance for running clubs following the recently announced lock down. Sadly it is what we expected. No club activity, and individuals can only exercise with people from their own household OR with one other person.
You can read the full information on their website.
https://www.englandathletics.org/.../new-guidance.../
Can we please ask all KADS to have a read so that they are aware of the new restrictions. Feel free to reach out to other KADS to arrange runs together (especially as it's now dark at night), but please do not run in anything more than a pair. We'll update you as soon as we hear anything else.

Updated 18 October 2020 - KADS Club Runs
After the success of our bigger structured and track sessions, KADS Club Runs are coming back from Wednesday 21 October. Of course things will be different to previous club runs, but we’re very that we’re able to hold a Covid Secure run for you.
A lot of work has been done to ensure all England Athletics, Government and Tier 2 (and 3) restrictions are being complied with, we just need a bit of help from you to make it go smoothly. Please have a read through the bullets below as these outline the new process for our club runs. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact Steve Robinson-Day, our Covid-19 Officer.
I hope you are as excited as we are about this. Go KADS!!

We've updated our Covid Action Plan and the Risk Assessment to enable us to put on Track Sessions which will start from next week.

- The number of runners able to take part will be limited. For the first week this will be 24, but we will review the number on a regular basis. If you wish to join in please book a place on the Run Together system. If you have any problems with this system please contact a member of the committee who will be happy to help you.
- Kerstine, our Routemaster will publish a route each week which will have been risk assessed. Please take time to memorise the route as you may not have a run leader running with you. On weeks where we have a short route, if you want to run further please do two or three loops of the route.
- If you have symptoms or have been asked to self-isolate, please do not attend the session.
- Meet at 7pm (please do not arrive early) on the patch of grass between the top of Noel Street and the artificial football pitch – this is our ‘Safe Area’. There will be a one-way system in place, so please enter the area from the football pitch side, and exit on the side by Noel Street.
- Steve will be by the Safe Area to guide people, provide any information required and ensure things run smoothly – please pay attention to any instructions from him.
- Once inside the Safe Area, please ensure you stand two meters apart from other runners and if possible wear a face covering (a KADS buff would be a perfect option!)
- Please organise yourselves into small groups (at least two but no more than six) to run the same distance together. Groups do not need to have a run leader.
- Once you have buddied up your group, please let Steve know. Groups will be set off with intervals between them, heading out of the field on the side by Noel Street.
- When running please try to maintain 2m social distance, or 1m plus mitigation (such as face coverings or avoiding face-to-face contact) where 2m isn’t possible.
- Once your group has completed your run please do not return to the Safe Area or wait around for others to finish. Finishing in your group will ensure that everyone has returned back safely, and while we know that going straight home isn’t the KADS way, we just need to make sure we do that for now.
I hope you are as excited as we are about this. Go KADS!!

Updated 6 October 2020
Trail running is a great way to minimise contact with members of the public, something we're keen to do at the moment. Our previous Health and Safety policy wording prevented the club from organising runs in areas that are not well lit. We've updated the policy to enable the club to arrange off road runs with a head torch as the winter nights are closing in. The Health and Safety policy also now states that we have a separate Covid-19 policy. Also below, you'll find the ARC Incident Report Form which is referenced in the Health and Safety Policy.

As you know we've been working on our documentation to enable us to run club nights in a Covid Secure Environment. Once this is established we will be able to increase the numbers on club runs and sessions above the current limit of five runners and one run leader. Our Covid Action Plan and the Risk Assessment for Structured Sessions are now complete and are here for you to read. **These documents have now been updated and are now available in the update above from 7 October 2020**

Updated 10 September 2020
Following the recent Government announcement introducing new restrictions and the 'rule of six', we have had confirmation from England Athletics that this does not apply to club events organised in a Covid Secure Environment. We will continue with a structured sessions and led runs in groups, the size of which we will slowly increase over the coming weeks.
Updated 14 August 2020
We held a trial 'Led Run' this Wednesday which went really well. We're looking to roll these out alongside our structured sessions. We continue to encourage KADS to organise their own social runs and have created the below information to help.
KADS Guide To Social Runs
There are pages and pages of official guidelines about running at the moment and they keep changing! Argghhhh! As a club we have to use them for club-arranged runs though, and we also need to ask all our members adhere to the EA guidance for runners, even when arranging social runs. We’ve waded through all this paperwork (so you don’t have to), and have tried to distil it down into just six points for runners and run organisers to check through:
Thanks KADS, we appreciate your patience and support, your Club Committee.

We’ve waded through all this paperwork (so you don’t have to), and have tried to distil it down into just six points for runners and run organisers to check through:
- If any of us have symptoms or are self-isolating, we must avoid attend any activities.
- Runners in the higher risk groups should follow any medical guidance given about ensuring good health and welfare.
- We know this is awkward, but run groups can’t be more than 6 people. If more than six wish to attend a run, you’ll need to work together to arrange beforehand to split into two or more groups and be careful to not accidentally form a bigger group at any point, especially at the start or end of the run.
- When running in a group we need to try to maintain 2m social distance, or 1m plus mitigation (such as face coverings or avoiding face-to-face contact) where 2m isn’t possible.
- If the route crosses anywhere with special restrictions (most likely privately-owned land) then be aware we’ll need to adhere to any requirements they impose or avoid that area.
- It’s each of our personal responsibilities to make sure any activity we take part in takes account of local conditions (like new temporary lock-downs) and all government guidance around COVID-19.
Thanks KADS, we appreciate your patience and support, your Club Committee.

Updated 14 June 2020
This week we held a committee meeting, by video, to try and work out how we can bring KADS safely back into the real world for us all. After reviewing the EA guidelines we do not feel we’re able to host face to face club activities at this time. We are committed to continuing our work with virtual events, which we hope you find fun, engaging and motivating, and the committee will continue to meet bi-weekly (online) to arrange these events for the club and review the current situation. Until we are able to re-start club activities, should you wish to use the KADS Chit Chat page or email to arrange meeting fellow KADS, we’re happy to support this as long as you’re able to follow the current government guidelines.
Updated 2 June 2020
EA have updated their guidance following the Government easing restrictions and allowing 6 people to meet at once. Their official stance is on this link. As a club, we'd ask you continue to follow the guidelines as individuals, the club will not yet be creating events or sessions except the virtual ones as we have been. We are next due to meet (online) next Wednesday when we'll have had a chance to see if there are revisions by EA, how other clubs are handling it and what we could do to keep things simple, safe and remain within the guidelines and our insurance.
Updated 28 May 2020
Yesterday's Government announcement eased lock down restrictions, enabling up to six individuals to meet outside (as long as social distancing is adhered to) from Monday. We're waiting for updated information from the EA as to how this affects us as a running club, and we will post it here as soon as we have it.
Updated 15 May 2020
Following the recent Government update on the easing of lock down measures, we've now received information from England Athletics with regards to what the changes mean to us. Sadly as a club, we're still unable to meet and run together, however individuals are now able to run with one other person who is not from their household, as long as they both observe social distancing measures. You can find the full EA update on their website.
Updated 16 March 2020
Following the Government press conference this evening we have made the decision to suspend gathering as a large group until further notice. We had an emergency committee meeting this evening using online resources (zoom) and came to the decision unanimously as a result of the advice which reads "avoid unnecessary travel and non-essential contact with others".
What we do not have to face in the UK at present is a total lock down. We are still free to run!
What does that mean to us?
We still want to support you, we want to get out and run ourselves, but Wednesday and Thursday nights are cancelled. Gathering as a large group at any other time is also to be discouraged.
What can we do instead?
Map Runs: While we're still permitted to run, there will be three distances published weekly. Each will have a novelty element to it. We encourage you to participate in the challenge, share your strava/garmin details or send a muddy face or feet photo.
Weekly Structured session: There will still be a session structured each week. Use the KADS chit chat/whatsapp/email if you need the support - push each other to complete it at the same time in different locations, use the resources
Handicap: As this was due to start in just a couple of weeks, if things stay as they are, this cannot be completed in its current form. As a result the course will be marked out from 1st April and you'll have the entire month to complete it. This will give Steve a big overhead as he's got to collate all the data and publish predicted times before hand so you know what you're aiming for. There will also need to be an element of trust for those runners who don't use smart devices to capture their run detail. Just remember everyone, trust is key here, it's only meant for a bit of fun and competition and while the shine might be taken off the award next March, think of the poor Liverpool fans if the league is cancelled..
Additional Support
Kerstine has also been publishing other online resources for strength and fitness to help with running, these are going to be shared more widely. We'll also be continuing to monitor the situation and the interaction to see what else we can do to keep running.
If anyone wants to contact us about running specific issues while you're more isolated, please get in touch with us.
We're also not just a running club, we value your health and wellbeing too. There are resources out there to help (e.g. https://covidmutualaid.org/), but if anyone is in a vulnerable group and needs a little support, reach out to one of the members or you can contact any of the committee. If anyone wants to contact me directly, my number is 07766 962751.
KADS was founded to get groups of like-minded people together, now we're being forced to run in isolation. Let's show the other clubs once again what it means to be a KAD😎
Yours in (mostly) isolation,
Leigh
Chairman
Updated 12 March 2020
As the government has today changed the status of the pandemic to the 'delay' stage, please ensure that if you have and viral symptoms or a cough that you self isolate for 7 days.
We will continue to monitor the situation and continue to act on the advice we receive.
Updated 11 March 2020
We thought we would share with you the latest advice from EA regarding the coronavirus outbreak:
https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/coronavirus-statement/
The Committee had a brief chat this morning and we would like to ask everyone to meet outside (on the grassy area we warm up) tonight, in order to minimise congregating inside the leisure centre. Please do pop inside, check the route maps etc, but then make your way outside to the grassy area at the entrance on Newdigate street to the KLC/School.
As well as asking everyone to follow the general advice for washing your hands and "catch it, kill it, bin it" when coughing or sneezing, please can we ask, that if you do have flu-like symptoms, or if you have been recently returned to the UK from overseas (particularly the affected parts of the world) that you avoid coming along for the time being. This is simply to help maintain the health of the club and do our bit to "flatten the curve" and slow the spread of the virus.
We aren't experts so we can't necessarily answer your questions, so please refer to NHS 111 and the governments advice if you have any concerns: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public
Thanks
KADS Committee
