Meet your Ladies Captain

What is/was your job?
I am a Clinical Trial Manager at Royal Derby Hospital Kids: Nope! How long have you been running? Started properly in January 2013 as a New Year’s Resolution to run the RHHM later that year. I gave it a go before that at Uni, but not to great success (mainly too hungover) and as a kid/teen I did triathlons and running was also my worst discipline 😉. Favourite races/routes: Hmm… up until 2018, I would have always said Robin Hood Half Marathon, but then I did Liverpool Rock ‘n’ Roll, Nomad, Equinox24, then Belvoir Challenge so my whole world changed! I think if I had to pick one, it would probably be Nomad. What are the best and worse things about running? The best things are the way it makes me feel, the fact that I can treat myself guilt free, and the worst is how it can impact on my social life and the guilt I feel when I don’t run. How far do you run a week? Always aim for at least 20 miles, but more recently been hitting 35-ish miles, usually in 3-4 runs. Runs I’d like to do: Rat Race The Wall is on my bucket list, it’s a 69-mile ultra-marathon from Carlisle to Newcastle in Hadrian’s Wall territory. I remember seeing it as a double page spread in Runner’s World and instantly deciding I would do it one day. Greatest running achievement: My first marathon, did it in 4:15:59 (still my PB as of 23rd May 2019…) and cried as I crossed the finished line. Never looked back. Any running tips? Value your rest days. They are there for a reason. And don’t increase pace and distance in the same session (thanks Dan Gooch for that advice in my early KADS days) and make sure every run has a purpose. No junk miles – every run has a reason; recovery, tempo, hills, endurance. What are your interests out with KADS? Gaming – hubby and I are massive gamers. More recently becoming a bit of a board game geek too. And my dogs. Obviously. What is your favourite music? Anything pre-00’s, whether its rock or rap, just prefer my old school stuff 😊 Favourite Books: To be honest, I barely have time to read, but I have been enjoying audio books (and podcasts) when I run. I don’t have favourites though to be honest. Favourite places to visit: The beach! Places I’ll never go again: Las Vegas – went there on our USA road trip in 2017, but didn’t love it Things I’d like to see KADS do: I really want to get a KADS relay team out for Nomad one year. I’m so pleased to see us taking a few teams to Equinox, but I want more! We are such a great team, and I really want us to embrace that in what is otherwise a solo sport. Favourite tipple: Cider – the cloudier the better. TV shows I watch: Sons of Anarchy, The Sopranos, South Park, Modern Family, anything true crime related too. Favourite Films: Depends on my mood, but I love a good blockbuster and the occasional horror flick. Pet hates: (I just asked Jay and he rolled his eyes because apparently there’s a list…) – People interrupting or talking over me has to top the list. Favourite food/ places to eat: When I eat out, I love a good steak because I can never do a good job of cooking one myself Describe yourself in six words: Motivated, considerate, perfectionist, a control freak. |
