If you're considering taking up running for the first time, we suggest using the NHS Couch to 5k programme. This nine week programme offers podcasts as well as celebrity coaches. It is designed for beginners to gradually build up their running ability so they can eventually run 5km without stopping.
On the NHS website, you'll also find a five week strength and flex exercise plan. The equipment-free exercises are designed to improve your strength and flexibility and should be used alongside your Couch to 5k plan to help you avoid running injuries.
As with any form of exercise, before starting, please visit your GP and discuss it with them if you have any health concerns.
Once you're able to run 5km without stopping, join us on one of our Tuesday or Wednesday night club sessions where you'll be able to run with others of a similar standard. Our club members range in age from 13 to 70+ who run at a wide range of paces. We cater for everyone from runners who want to continue their training and improve, to competitive runners who want to race against others.
All newcomers are made to feel very welcome and we make sure no runner is left alone.
