Race Report: Holbrook Hill Race 2026

It’s been red hot temperatures at every race lately and Friday was no different with temperatures 30 degrees plus at the 7 o’clock start and everyone already sweating before we even started. We went off for our warm up, both deciding that we would take this one easy with all the other races we’ve been doing, and that definitely happened.

The race has a really quick start downhill from the football club on a mixture of road and easy trail for the first mile and a half before a sharp left turn onto a steep but runnable climb that eventually became stairs. This was followed by hard packed trails, reasonably flat through nice countryside then a steep downhill. Some more flat running up to the last road hill climb for an uphill finish at the pub in the centre of the village.

People were out to squirt us with water at a few points on the course which was very welcome and support from locals along the way was great, although I was jealous of their beers and food. Medals and high quality race T-shirts were given out at the race, really good value for the low entry cost.

We didn’t realise the start and finish were in different places so had to walk back to start for the car but did manage to grab a quick pint before coming back home.

Overall a great local race, 5 miles, challenging but runnable course similar difficulty to our league races  Fully recommend to anyone in the club. Good finishes for us both, Ryan was 7th (2nd V40) and I was 19th, so yeah just taking it easy .
