On a lovely sunny morning we had 29 runners join us for the June edition of the
Colliers Wood Canter. The course was in terrific condition with not a dot of mud
to be seen, which meant we were able to run our traditional route.
Eight runners made their canter debut, including a cracking group from Ilkeston
Joggers, who were easy to spot in their fantastic bright orange kit. We hope to
see you guys again soon.
Andy Aiston took the 5k crown with Sam Garside taking the ladies top spot. Kev
Roughton tactically crossed the finish line a lap earlier than usual to bag himself
the 3k win.
Thanks as ever goes to the Canter Marshalls, ensuring the event goes ahead.
Thanks to this months volunteers Mike, Julie, Jason, Vicky, Jen, Paul, Mark and
Kev.
The registration is now open on our website for the July edition on Sunday 14th
July 2024. Same time, same place. We hope to see you there.
Thanks again,

The canter is gaining momentum and today we had a bumper turnout for our little event with 59 of you soaking up the sun. We had an army of Hucknall Harriers on course lead the way by chief in command Dan Nightingale all dressed in their shazzy new club tops, some one got the memo about wearing your best T-shirt/ Vest.
We had over 10 runners making their canter debut, we hope you all enjoyed yourself. And a special mention to Mr Canter himself Nigel Harrison, always present when possible and today celebrating his birthday recording a cracking run at the same time, we hope you've had a great day.
Onto the race itself. We've had 4 different 5k winners this series and none of them have ran the same race together.. until today! Andy Aiston and Oli Braybrook were both on course, Oli on the back of a huge half marathon pb in Birmingham last week and Andy coming off the back of a gruelling BDL league race running up Cromford Wednesday night, was one of these going to take the May crown or would someone else enter the title challenge? You guessed it!! Martin Lee, in fine form himself decided today was his day as he took home 1st place with Oli Braybrook (2nd) and Andy Aiston (3rd) making up the 5k podium. A few special mentions in the 5k event - Well done to juniors Dominic Murtagh and Finlay Radford both completing the 5k event. A big well done to Rachel Bailey who completed her first 5k!! And to Pam Tivey who was over the moon at her 5k today and rightfully so after such a long layoff with a niggling injury.
Onto the 3k event we had a Canter first timer Grayson Gunn who took home the crown for the 3k event leaving his dad Carl behind in 2nd place with Emma Walker claiming 3rd place to finalise the podium spots. A special mention to the junior division once again with 8 competing in the 3k event today leaving a lot of proud parents on course.
Well done to LLoyd Andrews winning a £10 voucher in our spot prize competition by this months sponsor Cassidy's Kitchen.
Thanks as ever goes to the Canter Marshalls, ensuring the event goes ahead. Thanks to this months volunteers Mike, Sam, Hayley, Aston, Rob, Chris and Mark.

Finally we can say what a beautiful morning it was for the Colliers Wood Canter. Weather has been grim to us this series, especially last month for our anniversary celebrations, fortunately it didn't dampen the mood. Despite the bad weather numbers are at a high this series and today we continued that rich form. 45 runners took on today's event, 16 in the 3k and 29 in the 5k. The course continued to see a growth in the junior department with 9 runners under the age of 11 completing the 3k route, a huge well done to all of you.
Onto the podium places and we start with the 3k event which Hari Chamberlain took home the crown in 1st place with a cracking time of 19:58. Up next was Elwood Evans coming in 2nd place with a time of 20:18 and to cap off the podium we had Grace England in 3rd place with a time of 20:37.
Onto the 5k and we had some rapid times, we nearly had all podium finishes go under sub 20. We start with the winner Matt Hammond with an impressive time of 18:17, a cracking run. In 2nd place we had in-form Luke Jones with an impressive time of 19:40. And to cap it off we had 3rd place Phil Stevenson with a time of 20:04 narrowly missing the sub 20.
All under 16's were treated to an Easter choc fest which we can all agree they deserved after some excellent runs.
As ever a big thankyou to this months volunteers, Race Director Mike O'Brien and his team of marshalls. We hope you all had a great time and join us back here on Sunday 12th May which will have a special vest theme to it.
Thanks again,

Thankyou!! We've made it to 10 years and we couldn't do it without the support on and off the course. Today bought home a lot of old faces including Sue and Paul who created the event that has been enjoyed by so many over the years. They both ran with the other 44 runners who took part in the event.
In the 3k event first home was David Hill finishing with a time of 13:57. He was followed by Goose Fair Gallop Director Sam Garside with a time of 15:10. Rounding off the podium was young Betsy Evans with a time of 20:55, incredible!!
Onto the 5k event and Oli Braybrook took home the crown with an impressive time of 20:16. In 2nd place was Cole Perkins with a strong time of 21:45. The podium was wrapped up by Paul Lewis who finished in 3rd with a time of 21:58.
We had a right good mix today, old faces returning and reminiscing, current club members meeting members of the past for the first time and without question an encouraging sign for the future with all of our young stars.
10 years isn't the end of the Canter it's simply closes a fantastic chapter of its history and next month we start a new chapter. Our April edition will see all youngsters under 16 receive a little Easter prezzie. The date to save is Sunday April 14th and we hope to see you all there.

Well what a turnout today, 50 of you rocked up for the latest Colliers Wood Canter of the series!! 13 of you took on the 3k challenge with 37 of you completing the 5k.
Todays highlights had to be the huge showing of youngsters on the course and dominating the 3k event. We had course record holders , last months 5k winner and an array of first timers!!
Starting with the 3k event we witnessed 2 siblings finding themselves claiming podium spots. First home was Alex Woods with an impressive time of 14:51 followed in second place not far away was Ariana Woods with a time of 17:05. And to wrap up the podium places was Elwood Evans in a strong time of 18:19. Well done to everyone that took place in this event.
On to the 5k event... Today witnessed what I feel is one of the strongest fields the canter has seen, with the top 6 all going sub 20. The winner was Bruce Raeside who holds the 5k course record since 2019 finishing with an eye watering time of 17:06!! Followed in second place Matt Hammond in 2nd with a time of 19:12 and returning after Januarys 5k win Andy Aiston with a with a cracking time of 19:30.
Thankyou to everyone who helped marshall and take part in todays event. Next stop? our 10 year anniversary on March 17th. Keep posted on our new facebook page named Kimberley and district striders present the colliers wood canter, also keep checking in on the website as we update it regular.

The Canter is back and this year is going to be that bit more special. Later this year we celebrate 10 years of The Colliers Wood Canter and hopefully today's series opener is a great sign of what's to come!
38 of you in total took on our muddy, soggy course due to the recent grim weather we've had but that didn't stop you all from smiling.
3 of you you took on the 3k route today, giving you all your very own medal for the day. Pam Tivey took gold in 1st place with a time of 17:53. Not too far behind Pam was Lisa Hilliard in 2nd with a time of 20:59, pipping her sister Nadine Hilliard who came in 3rd place with a time of 21:00.
Onto the 5k event we witnessed 35 runners in total, 26 men and 9 ladies.
Coming home in 1st place with an impressive time was Andy Aiston with a time of 19:11. Taking 2nd place was Luke Jones with a time of 22:29 and taking the final podium spot in 3rd place was Dan Gooch with a time of 22:47.
A couple of special mentions to the 2 youngsters on course today in the form of Dominic Murtagh with a time of 26:29 and Jacob Wilde with a time of 27:40, both completing the 5k route, a big well done to you both.
We'd like to thank the race director Mike O'Brien and his team of Marshalls including Aston Cassidy, Karen Layton, Dom Devlin, Mark Oakley, Angela Henson and Oli Braybrook.
And lastly speaking of Oli we'd like to say a big thankyou to both Oli and Glenn Rothwell that have kindly taken professional photos that you can view below.
